|'focus21' limited ~ a personal profile...
‘focus21 limited' was established in Hawkes Bay in 1978 as a building company registered as ‘Owen Construction Ltd'. During a downturn in home building, I, a trained and qualified master builder, opted for a change in direction. With my family I moved to Auckland and spent the next twelve years with a leading machine tool importer, initially as Company Accountant then later General Manager. It was here that I first became aware of the concept of ultrasonic cleaning, developed an interest in the process, and was intrigued by the possibilities.
A three year stint as NZ Sales Manager for the reputable British woodworking machinery manufacturer ‘Wadkin PLC”, followed by a one year stay in the UK and Europe on a long overdue OE, gave me with the opportunity to learn more about this method of cleaning those ‘hard to get at' surfaces and crevices. During that stay, over ten years ago, I visited and formed an association with Cardiff based specialist ultrasonic bath manufacturer, Ultrawave Limited. I also learned about “Phoraid” a high level disinfectant developed to combat AIDS. Since 1991 Ultrawave has grown to become market leader in the small bath market in Europe and exports to more than 17 countries around the world, including the highly competitive USA market. Phoraid is proven as the safe alternative for infection control against a wide range of organisms .
Not satisfied with just supplying standard units to traditional users of ultrasonics for cleaning, I had an ambition to develop sonic baths specific to the needs of different industries. While remaining loyal to the long association with Ultrawave, contact with an independent manufacturer of transducer assemblies has allowed ‘focus21 ltd' to design and have built on a small scale, industrial quality baths that incorporate features often not available in standard, off the shelf units. The introduction of the HEADmaster range to target the specific size range and needs of timber machinist in “degunking” cutter heads and sawblades is one such development.
Involvement with ultrasonic cleaning and the high level disinfectant ‘Phoraid' enhanced my interest in health & safety issues and my concern for our common surroundings. An outcome of this is that I studied for, and gained a NZ Certificate in Food Hygiene & Safety, am a current member of the ‘Keep Rotorua Beautiful' committee and a former chairman of ‘Auckland Friends of the NZ Historic Places Trust'.
Membership of the Chamber of Commerce, Geyser S.W.A.P.Club, Toastmasters International and the NZ Inventors Trust, reflect my philosophy of viewing all things positively coupled with an enthusiasm for considering and developing options often not even thought about by others.
